Three things you need to know about connecting a PC to the SuperSting?

  1. The SSAdmin Baud rate (SSAdmin->Window Menu->SuperSting Control Center->Config Menu) must match SuperSting baud rate in menu.6.4.
  2. Your PC's COM Port where the USB-to-serial adaptor is installed must match the SSAdmin COM Port (SSAdmin->Window Menu->SuperSting Control Center->Config Menu).
    1. To find the COM port on your computer navigate to the Microsoft Device Manager. Look for your USB-to-Serial adapter under the "Port" section:

  1. The SuperSting MUST be in the MAIN Menu to connect

 

What brand/model USB-to-serial device should I use when loading firmware to the SuperSting instruments?

Although many USB-to-serial devices will interface with the SuperSting Electrical Resistivity Instruments ONLY the BrainBoxes Ltd. (model # US-101) is compliant and will load firmware to the all generations of SuperSting instruments.

 

Follow these three important steps after loading the firmware:

  1. Format Data Memory
    • From the main menu, press 5 for “Data File Management”
    • Press 4 for “Format Disk”
    • Next press 1 to start format. Once the format is finished the text “DONE” will be displayed.
  2. Format Command File Memory
    • From the main menu, press 5 for “Data File Management”
    • Press 6 for “Delete All Command Files”
    • Next press 1 to delete all. During this process, the text “IN PROGRESS” will appear. Once the process is finished, the “IN PROGRESS” text will disappear.
  3. Set Defaults
    • From the main menu, press 6 for “System Settings”
    • Press 4 for “General Settings”
    • Next press 4 to set defaults. Once this process is finished, the text “DONE” will be displayed.
